Sorry it's been so long since our last update, the end of the year snuck up quicker than usual. I hope everyone's finals, semester break, and holiday season went well!
The Lead On Conference is next week! AHHH! Not sure what to expect? Well here are some tips to go over the next few weeks to prepare yourselves!
1. Dress to Impress!
Very similar to the MIRSA State Workshop, typical dress code for this conference is business casual. While this can mean a variety of things depending on your personal style, here are some basic ideas that will always work:- Khakis and dress pants
- School polo, jacket, and other apparel
- Nice sweater, collared shirt, or dress top
- Skirts, dresses, ties, and jackets are totally optional
The age-old adage is also true, "dress for the job you want, not the job you have." If you're hoping to make a great impression because you're looking for a GA position or maybe even a professional one, it doesn't hurt to dress a bit more formally, especially if you've signed up for a Resume Review or Mock Interview session.
If you are doing any pre-conference activities, dress comfortably as you'll be active and moving around quite a bit! For dinner and socials, dress is considered casual so your favorite jeans and shirt combo will work here! Just keep in mind the Midwestern winters so layer appropriately!

But always make sure what you're wearing makes you feel comfortable and confident!
2. What Should I Bring With Me?
- Resumes
- Bring at least 3 copies of your resume. There is always a basket where you can drop off your resume (1) and it will be reviewed by a professional staff member and returned to you later during the conference, you can sign up for a one-on-one resume review (2) and take notes during specific resume presentations (3).
- Notebook/Pen/Tablet
- Something small to take notes with during presentations or to remember information about new friends!
- Water Bottle and snacks
- While there will definitely be lunch and dinner (and breakfast if you're staying at the CoRec,) it can make you more comfortable having a granola bar or water bottle on-hand since there is typically a pretty big gap between the two meals.
- Your Personality!
- One of the main goals of the Lead On Conference is to give students the chance to network with other students and professionals around the region, so don't forget to be yourself and meet other people!
- some cash or a checkbook
- You can purchase some of the awesome items in our Auction or donate to our Penny Wars fundraisers. All proceeds go towards our Region III Scholarship fund!
- T-shirts from your school!
- Talk to your professionals and get some IM, Special Event, or Rec t-shirts to exchange at the end of the conference with other students!
